Modern Dinosaurs (Birds!)| Mon, OCT 19; 8am-5pm* (9-11 year olds)

Did you know that all birds are Dinosaurs? That’s right! Birds belong to the theropod group of dinosaurs that include Tyrannosaurus rex, Archaeopteryx, and Velociraptor. Join us on a journey as we explore the history of Dinosaurs during the Mesozoic era and observe how they survived and evolved into modern birds after the devastating mass extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous period. Campers will meet a vertebrate Paleontologist who will share how our understanding of Dinosaurs has changed over time. We will also examine the many adaptations of birds that call Nebraska home, including the characteristics that give birds the ability to fly. This camp is best suited for ages 9-11.

*Camp programming is from 9am-4pm. You may drop-off/pick-up your camper(s) within an hour before and after camp programming occurs

Day camps at Morrill Hall are hands-on, minds-on experiences where campers explore natural history topics. Each camp is led by UNSM educators, with potential opportunities to engage with our museum researchers and guest speakers.*

During each camp, participants will participate in a variety of activities, a snack will be provided, and each camper will make items they can take home. Please refer to our FAQ section and Information Packet on the website for more information.

* Researcher and guest participation based on camp topic and researcher availability.
